Towards Connected Transport Management: Talks on Cooperation Between Dispatching Centres in Eastern Slovakia

Modern integrated public transport relies on close cooperation between multiple institutions. For this reason, the IDS Východ dispatching centre is gradually developing talks and expert discussions on connecting its operations with other key traffic management centres in the region – in particular the urban public transport dispatching centres in Košice and Prešov.

The main objective of these discussions is to create stronger information links between regional and urban transport, which naturally overlap in daily operation. Many passenger journeys cross administrative boundaries, and the quality of transfers between regional services and city public transport significantly influences overall travel experience. The focus is therefore on sharing operational information, improving coordination during disruptions, and developing a more comprehensive real‑time overview of transport conditions.

Cooperation with the dispatching centres of MHD Košice and MHD Prešov addresses not only technical aspects, but also process‑related and competence‑based questions. While each dispatching centre has clearly defined responsibilities today, future cooperation is being explored in a way that respects these competences while enhancing coordination through better information exchange.

Beyond urban transport, discussions also extend to other key stakeholders influencing transport in the region, including municipal police, the Police Force of the Slovak Republic, the Railways of the Slovak Republic, and emergency services. In these cases, the emphasis is on faster information exchange during accidents, closures, extraordinary events, or crisis situations.

The goal is not to establish a single centralised “super dispatching centre”, but rather to create effective communication links that support coordinated responses. Early and reliable information can significantly improve decision‑making in public transport dispatching and help reduce negative impacts on passengers.

Such cooperation requires not only technical solutions, but also trust, clearly defined agreements, and respect for institutional responsibilities. Discussions are therefore carried out gradually, with a strong focus on realistic benefits and long‑term sustainability.

Through this approach, the IDS Východ dispatching centre acts as a facilitator of expert dialogue, working towards a future where transport and public safety stakeholders share situational awareness and public transport can respond more quickly and predictably – always in the interest of passengers.
