26–28 June 2026 | Transport Questionnaire Survey at the Slovak–Ukrainian Border Crossings,

From 26 to 28 June 2026, IDS Východ, s.r.o. team carried out an extensive transport questionnaire survey focused on identifying the mobility patterns of passengers crossing the border between the Slovak Republic and Ukraine.

The activity was implemented as part of the international OTRACON KS-UA project, which aims to improve knowledge of cross-border mobility and support more effective planning of transport services in the border region.

Over the course of three days, approximately 520 respondents were approached and provided valuable information about their travel habits, trip directions, purposes of travel and the modes of transport they used.

The survey period was deliberately selected to coincide with the end of the school year and the beginning of the summer holidays, when increased travel volumes were expected. These expectations were confirmed — on Saturday, waiting times at some border crossings in the direction of Ukraine reached as much as 4 to 8 hours, highlighting exceptionally intensive cross-border mobility during the monitored period.

The collected data will subsequently be subject to detailed analysis. Statistical outputs, identified transport relations, passenger flows and other findings will be presented at a joint working meeting of the project partners. The results will serve as an important basis for discussion on the possibilities for developing cross-border transport and improving mobility in the region. Representatives of the Border and Foreign Police and the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic will also take part in the presentation of the results.

At the same time, we would like to thank the Directorate of the Border and Foreign Police and its officers for their helpfulness and professional approach during the implementation of the survey. Our thanks also go to the officers of the Financial Administration in Michalovce, who supported the implementation of this activity and the OTRACON project through their willingness and constructive approach.

Thanks to this cooperation, it was possible to successfully carry out the data collection, which will contribute to a better understanding of cross-border transport flows and to the preparation of future measures supporting mobility between Slovakia and Ukraine.
