On 31 July 2026, we hosted a professional roundtable meeting focused on the mutual exchange of information on priorities in the development of cross-border cooperation between eastern Slovakia and the Zakarpattia region of Ukraine.

The meeting addressed current topics related to the development of transport infrastructure, improving the capacity of border crossings, the potential for supporting tourism, and the preparation of strategic projects for the new programming period. The discussion also highlighted the growing importance of high-quality cross-border transport links for the region’s economic development, international trade, and the future reconstruction of Ukraine.

A significant contribution to the event was the participation of a large delegation from the Zakarpattia region, led by Vasyl Ivancho, First Deputy Governor of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration. The strong presence of Ukrainian partners confirmed their interest in actively taking part in the preparation of development projects in the border area.

OTRACON SK-UA focuses on strengthening cross-border transport cooperation and improving the analytical basis for the future development of transport links between Slovakia and Ukraine.

As part of the OTRACON SK-UA project, participants had the opportunity to discuss the current state of cross-border mobility, transport-related challenges, and the possibilities for using transport models in planning future investments. The meeting also drew attention to activities that have already been prepared and are awaiting the next steps towards implementation, as well as to the priorities on which the Ukrainian side is focusing in the context of developing cross-border relations.

The exchange created a practical basis for further cooperation between Slovak and Ukrainian partners, particularly in identifying priority transport connections, preparing joint project proposals, and coordinating future activities aimed at improving mobility in the border region.
