As part of the implementation of the cross-border project OTRACON SK–UA, regular coordination meetings are being held involving the project team and partners from Slovakia and Ukraine. These meetings focus on addressing current technical and strategic issues related to transport, mobility and transport infrastructure in the Slovak–Ukrainian border region.
The main objective of these meetings is to align approaches to the preparation of strategic documents in the field of public transport and sustainable mobility, to exchange experience between partners, and to jointly seek solutions for territorially connected areas which, despite their strong functional and socio-economic links, are divided by a state border.
Discussions primarily address current challenges related to public transport planning, integration of transport systems, development of sustainable mobility solutions, and harmonisation of strategic planning documents on both sides of the border. An important part of the meetings is also the exchange of data, analytical approaches and methodologies, contributing to a better understanding of transport flows and the mobility needs of residents in the cross-border region.
A key topic of coordination is the development and improvement of cross-border transport infrastructure, particularly in relation to existing and planned border crossings. Partners jointly addressed possibilities for the reconstruction and capacity expansion of heavily used border crossings, as well as the strategic importance of establishing a new border crossing Čierna – Solomonovo. This new connection has the potential to significantly improve regional accessibility, support economic cooperation and strengthen links between the Slovak Republic and Ukraine.
Through regular coordination meetings, the OTRACON SK–UA project creates a platform for professional dialogue, joint planning and systematic cooperation, which are essential for the preparation of high-quality strategic documents and the implementation of effective solutions in public transport and mobility. In this way, the project contributes to the long-term sustainable development of transport, improved accessibility of the area and the strengthening of cross-border cooperation in the wider region of eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine.
