Within the implementation of the cross-border project OTRACON SK–UA, regular coordination meetings are being held between partners from Slovakia and Ukraine, focusing on the professional preparation and coordination of activities related to the establishment of the new Čierna – Solomonovo border crossing. This planned border crossing represents a strategic opportunity to improve transport connectivity between the Slovak Republic and Ukraine and to strengthen mobility in the wider cross-border region.
The main objective of the regular meetings is to create a joint expert platform where partners address current issues related to transport planning, capacity requirements, traffic flows and the functional integration of the new border crossing into existing transport infrastructure and public transport systems. Discussions mainly focus on aligning national and regional approaches, exchanging analytical inputs and coordinating strategic planning documents on both sides of the border.
Special attention is given to the role of the planned Čierna – Solomonovo border crossing in the context of growing transport demand, increased mobility and long-term development plans of eastern Slovakia and the Zakarpattia region. Partners jointly assess possible transport scenarios, expected impacts on road and rail networks, and links to connecting infrastructure and public transport services.
Regular coordination meetings also enable systematic cooperation between expert institutions and project partners, which is essential for preparing high-quality background materials for future decision-making processes. An important part of the cooperation is the exchange of experience related to existing border crossings and the identification of factors that may contribute to their more efficient operation and better integration into the transport system.
Through these activities, the OTRACON SK–UA project creates a professional framework for data-driven and coordinated planning of the new Čierna – Solomonovo border crossing. The project contributes not only to improved accessibility and smoother transport flows in the cross-border area, but also to strengthening Slovak–Ukrainian cooperation in developing strategic solutions in transport and mobility.
